Skokie is a village that shares a border with Chicago. Dubbed the largest village in the United States, the area boomed in size after World War II, when families left the heart of Chicago in search of a safe and quiet neighborhood. While in Skokie, take some time to visit the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center. Other favorite places include the Old Orchard shopping center and McCormick Boulevard sculpture gardens. Be sure to visit the Skokie Public Library. In 2008, it earned the National Medal for Museum and Library Service.
The Lincoln Park and North Shore neighborhoods are favorites for guests to stay in while in Skokie. To get around, visitors can take the Edens Expressway. Metra operates a commuter rail station in the village and PACE and CTA buses also have routes. O'Hare International Airport (ORD) is just minutes away.
The weather in Skokie is hot and humid with frequent thundershowers in the summer. During the winter, expect cold and windy weather with occasional moderate to heavy snow. Breezes off Lake Michigan can bring lake effect snows or cool down the summer air. Most of Skokie's nightlife takes place around the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts and at the theater and restaurants at Old Orchard shopping center.
