Riverside is approximately 50 miles east of Los Angeles. If you want to get some exercise during your vacation, hike up Mount Rubidoux or stroll along the walking trails in Ryan Bonaminio Park. State Route 215 and state Route 91 run through Riverside, while Route 215 intersects with Interstate 15. I-15 takes travelers north through the western United States. Route 91 runs from the Pacific Ocean to Riverside. Stay at a hotel in downtown Riverside if you want to be close to restaurants and shops on the pedestrian Main Street Mall. Riverside's train station is approximately half a mile from the downtown area. Amtrak and Metrolink trains stop here.
The Festival of Lights begins the day after Thanksgiving, when buildings in downtown Riverside are lit up with more than three million lights. Fireworks, an ice skating rink and an appearance by Santa Claus are part of the fun. The average high temperature during this time of year is 67 degrees. You can enjoy the Ice Cream Social at Heritage House in June, when the average high temperature is 87 degrees too. Riverside was founded in the 1870s, and Heritage House was built in 1891.
