"What a fabulous stay at the Hotel San Tropico in the Marina area of Puerto Vallarta! Extremely easy to get to from the airport (8-10CAD) and in a lovely, quiet and beautiful residential area. A little far to walk to the grocery store but if you're into walking, it's great. There is a public bus you can jump on that will take you to the main highway for 10 pesos! The stop is about 5-10 minutes walk away, so we always just opted to walk the whole way. The hotel itself is gorgeous - the pool and jacuzzi area are unbeatable and super quiet compared to pools in Zona or Centro. The pool area rarely had more than 2-3 other groups, and the bar and food are delicious. We had some cocktails and aguachile just after arriving; what a great way to set the trip off on the right foot. Huge, spacious room with a full kitchen and essential cooking items. We stayed on the 2nd floor (stairs only, be warned!). Head to the Soriana Hiper in the Plaza Marina and grab your food essentials on day 1 and you'll be absolutely set for the entire trip. Would absolutely recommend this hotel again and again for groups looking for some quiet time. You may find dinner is hard to find in a pinch (the hotel restaurant closes at 6) as the walk to the Marina or Plaza is far if you're really hungry but cabs are cheap and for the quiet and peace this place offers, it's so worth it.
