Located just north of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in North Texas, Denton is a city with a colorful history blended with its vibrant present and promising future. As home to two major universities with more than 45,000 enrolled students, Denton is the epitome of the classic college town.
Travelers to Denton often enjoy visiting the historic downtown square, with its many local restaurants, unique cafes and shopping opportunities. The city is known for its authentic antique shops, quaint tearooms and live music venues. The Murchison Performing Arts Center is located on the campus of the University of North Texas and hosts numerous music events throughout the year. Both universities and downtown areas are easily accessible from Interstate 35, located to the west the city. Visitors will find most hotels conveniently located along this corridor, but many prefer to stay along University Drive near the college campuses and shopping areas. Public transportation is provided by Denton County Transportation Authority. DFW International Airport is only about 30 minutes to the south with shuttle services available 24 hours a day. Many hotels also provide airport transportation.
The summers in this Texas city are warm and humid, but the winters are exceptionally mild. The Denton County Courthouse on the Square is highly photographed because of its unique historical significance and native limestone construction. The annual Redbud Festival, held in April, appeals to flower-lovers and serves as the Arbor Day event for Denton.
