Did not stay at the property

We booked the reservation on VRBO as we have done in so many instances, and always paid VRBO directly, who in turns, compensates the property owner.Someone texted me on WhatsApp 1-2 days before the trip saying they were the owner & we needed to pay them in addition to what we already paid VRBO. I have never seen a request and my biggest concern was that this was fraud, , so we would NOT provide our credit card.The entire supplemental request felt very peculiar to us, and again, we have NEVER seen such an arrangements.As such the reservation was cancelled even though we did incur some costs directly to VRBO.We cannot say anything about the property, rather the entire arrangements were difficult.
