Stranded 10 Hours from Home in a Dirty Property with No Where to Go!!!!
We booked this property in the Barefoot Resort and upon arrival the unit was not cleaned. After a 10 hour drive from NJ we arrived to piles of dirty towels and sheets on the floor, dirt on the floors and rugs, dirty bathrooms, beds were not made and sheets were dirty. We attempted to call the owner that was responsible for the property when we arrived and did not receive an answer. After leaving several messages and not getting any response after an hour we called VRBO to reach out to the owner. They explained that Ray was the property owner and was on a flight and could not assist us. The property manager was not answering any calls to her phones. We finally received a call back after waiting over 2.5 hours. The property manager was shocked that the cleaning agency has not showed up. She said it would be too difficult to track them down as they handle multiple properties and did not have a solution to our problem. She joked and asked if we wanted her to drive 2.5 hours down to the property herself to clean it. So ON THE FIRST DAY OF VACATION with my family I was presented with the option to stay in a dirty unit that some other family had spent the whole week in and wait until the next day until someone could come out to clean the unit. That option was not one I was willing to consider. We requested and were granted a full refund of all charges from both the property owner as well as VRBO. When we surveyed the property, the dining room chairs that were reported as being broken in the last review were still broken. The TV's in the bedrooms that are not shown due to the Entertainment centers being closed were older "square" TVs, a light switch was broken in the kitchen as well. I would be cautious before considering this unit for rental. It is a lovely community, but we were not impressed with the property at all and did not get to enjoy the bargain that was advertised. The saving grace of the whole vacation was that even though we didn't have renter's insurance, that VRBO was incredibly generous in assisting us as we were stranded 10 hours from home in Myrtle Beach with nowhere to stay. They graciously put us up at the North Beach Plantation for the night at their expense until we were able to secure another property for the week. We lucked into getting put in the Penthouse Unit on the 20th floor of a beach front with a gorgeous unit and fantastic pool complex. We were so happy that we decided to stay there for the whole week.
