Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) is a leading air transport hub for not only the US, but also the world. Only 20 miles southwest from the downtown Detroit area, the airport is easily accessible via taxis, shuttles and buses.
Access to the North Terminal is easiest via Interstate 94, while McNamara Terminal can be reached from I-275. Seasonal flights from DTW provide easy access to Cancun International Airport (CUN). Non-stop flights usually depart at 12:28 p.m. for travelers who want to get there quickly, while the 4:10 p.m. flights make two stops and arrive the next day.
With pristine beaches such as Playa Langosta on the north side, and Punta Nizuc on the east, there is no shortage of spots to catch some sun in Cancun.
Travel beyond the city limits and you'll experience ancient Mayan ruins, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site Chichen Itza or Tulum, one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya. For some adventure without all the extra exertion, check out the El Rey Ruins in the Hotel Zone, which are smaller and home to hundreds of iguanas.
Thanks to its tropical climate Cancun is warm throughout the year, so be sure to pack appropriate beachwear. The Hotel Zone is the most popular area to stay in if you want to experience the Cancun nightlife, while the downtown area is more economical and family friendly.
