Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Int (ATL) is located just south from Atlanta on I-85, a short drive from the downtown area, though there are also bus and light rail options available. Typical flight times are just over one hour to Fort Myers Southwest Florida Reg (RSW). The airport is about 20 miles from Fort Myers down I-75, taxis are parked outside the terminal building and buses are available during the day. There are no other public transportation options available.
Situated in an interesting spot between the Gulf of Mexico and the Everglades, Fort Myers has a bit of everything that Florida has to offer. The Gulf offers plenty of fishing with many tour operators offering the chance to go out and catch some big sharks or marlin. For those interested in the wetlands to the east of town, Six Mile Cypress Slough Reserve is a great starting point for discovering the beauty, and dangers, of the Glades. Shop around for tours of the Glades and you're bound to find one that suits your needs perfectly.
Florida's climate is hot and sticky for most of the year, only winter sees a drop in temperature and humidity; light clothing is advisable year-round. Fort Myers' hotels can be found around the coast overlooking the Gulf as well as more inland in the Everglades.
