Santo Domingo is a city in the Dominican Republic that features geological formations in the Park of Three Eyes of Water. Another attraction is the Catedral Primada de America, which is one of the oldest churches built in the Americas, and is known for its dramatic architecture. You can take a tram tour of the National Botanical Garden, or enjoy the first-built cobblestone streets in the New World, in Calle de Las Damas. Some of the less occupied beaches are located in Juan Dolio Guayacanes, which is home to many of the city's fishing villages.
Parque Colon is a popular neighborhood where many locals gather. It displays a large statue of Christopher Columbus. Several bus lines offer transportation throughout the city for ease of travel. Privately operated bus lines offer an air-conditioned ride and even serve cookies and coffee. Traditional car taxis, as well as motorcycle taxis, also offer transportation around the city. To experience the nautical side of Santo Domingo, there are several ferries and boat rides, which provide an element of fun. You will most likely arrive via the Las Americas International Airport (SDQ). There are plenty of lodging options along the waterfront, close to the Avenida George Washington.
The best times to visit Santo Domingo are between the months of February and July. During that time, temperatures average in the mid-80s during the day, and the low 70s during the night.
