While it may not get as much attention as neighboring Phoenix, Glendale is well worth the trip. Sports fans have two great arenas to see while in town. The University of Phoenix Stadium is the home of the Arizona Cardinals football team, and the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL play their home games at the Gila River Arena. You should also check out the Deer Valley Rock Art Center. Petroglyphs dating back over 7,000 years were found on the 47-acre site, which was added to the National Register of Historic Sites in 1984.
Downtown Glendale is filled with some of the area's best restaurants and antique shops. There are so many small shops downtown that the city refers to itself as "Arizona's Antique Capital." While Glendale doesn't have an airport, the area is served by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), which is less than 20 miles away.
Winter is a great time to visit Glendale. While most of the country is struggling with snow and cold temperatures, it will rarely drop below 45 degrees in Glendale. In addition, chocolate lovers have another reason to visit each February: the Glendale Chocolate Affaire. Attendees of the festival can taste some of the best chocolate in the United States while also enjoying live music.
