Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is centrally located south of Seattle and north of Tacoma. Once you get your rental car, you can hit the I-5 freeway, which will take you to either city. Seattle's bustling downtown gives you plenty of opportunities to wander the waterfronts from Elliot Bay to Lake Washington, check out the landmark Pike Place Market and see the Space Needle. For more Northwest flavor, head south to explore Tacoma.
If you choose to explore both cities, the difference between Tacoma and Seattle is immediately obvious. Tacoma is sleepier, but there is still plenty to see. Visit the LeMay America's Car Museum and see hundreds of classic cars. Everything in Tacoma is accessible via car, and you can go down to the waterfront and see Point Defiance Park with its hiking trails and old forests. Afterwards, stroll along the Ruston Way Waterfront and find a spot to eat.
The in-air flight time from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) to Seattle is just over three hours. Gate-to-gate time is closer to three and a half hours for a nonstop flight, and you'll want to schedule plenty of time for navigating the multiple terminals to pick up your baggage and rental car.
