Flights from Los Angeles to New York depart from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), a major international airport, and one of the U.S.'s busiest. Getting there from anywhere in LA is simple, but its location on the west side of Downtown can take a while if you're coming from surrounding areas. Various forms of transport are available to get you to the airport as fast as possible including taxis, shuttle vans, and public transport including the super-convenient Fly Away bus, which has stops at Irvine Station and Union Station. A car is the most convenient travel arrangement in LA, whether by taxi or from a kind friend. Door-to-door shuttles like the Roadrunner can take anywhere from one to two hours to get to LAX depending on your location.
Los Angeles to New York flights usually land at the LaGuardia Airport (LGA), located due east from the Upper East Side. The other option would be the John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), which is furthers south. From either of these, you can utilize the frequent taxis from the airport to Manhattan or any other location, which will probably end up costing you $30 unless your destination is quite close. The NYC Transporter bus can take you to Grand Central Station for $12.75; from here, there are numerous trains to take you to destinations all over New York City and beyond. There are New York Subway stops on Atlantic Ave., just up the highway on I-678 from JFK. This is certainly a cheaper idea to connect to Manhattan.
