The Best of the Best
With the athletic program dating back to 1906, it was not until the mid-90s that they were given the prestigious title of a premier athletic program within their conference. Since 1984 the program has received the All-Sports Trophy from their conference over 27 times and has been recognized nationally every year for landing among the top ten sports programs within the division. Among the list of their top performing teams, ultimately baseball, men’s basketball, football, gymnastics, softball and women’s tennis have been major contenders in their sport. All winning at least once NCAA National Championship title since their foundation. Today many of the alumni from the University of Florida play within the MLB, NFL, NBA, PGA, and WNBA.
Attending a Florida Gators game day is an experience like no other. Students, alumni, and fans all gather into the venue to cheer on the best athletes that the school has to offer. From participating in the “Gator Chomp” alongside Jaws music performed by the marching band or hanging out with Albert and Alberta the two mascots, it is a highly interactive experience for everyone involved. Other fan favorites include the dance team, the Dazzlers, that perform at every sporting event, and the marching band which is often referred to as “The Pride of the Sunshine”.
Rivals
Being one of the most dynamic teams within the Southeastern Conference, they naturally have quite the list of rivalries. The more predominant rivalries being with The University of Alabama and The University of Georgia. The three teams often compete over who will be the best in the conference across several sports, more specifically football and gymnastics.
