SEC Powerhouse
Perhaps one of their more well-known athletic programs is their football team. Having won 17 National Championship games, they are a powerhouse in NCAA football. The team got their start back in 1892 under the name “Crimson White”. The team played under various names until they received the name “Crimson Tide” in 1907 after winning a monumental game against the Auburn Tigers. Men and Women’s basketball are also major powerhouses within their respective sport. While neither of them have won a national title, they both hold numerous conference titles. Some of the other nationally recognized teams include gymnastics, golf, and softball. Today several Alabama Crimson Tide alumni are playing professionally within the National Basketball Association and the National Football League.
Rivals
Rivalry games are a great chance to see the skill of these young athletes. While their rival differs based on the sport being played, there is one main team that the Crimson Tide are always battling out across all sports- The Auburn University Tigers. Games between these two teams are ones that you do not want to miss. In fact, they get so heated that they are considered one of the top rivals in all of sports. While the two face off annually across all sports, it is their football match-up that garners a lot of national attention. Referred to as the Iron Bowl, it dates to 1893 with Alabama leading in the most wins.
