Young Talent

Carly Rae Jepsen was born on November 21, 1985 in Mission, British Columbia. Growing up she was heavily involved in musical theater, starring as the lead in Annie, Grease, and The Wiz. After graduating high school, Jepsen began auditioning for several performing arts schools in her home province. She was accepted into the College of Performing Arts in Victoria as one of only 25 females in the program. During her time at college, Jepsen began realizing that she was meant for a career in music, and not acting and dancing. After she graduated with her degree she moved to Vancouver where she began working minimum wage jobs while still performing nightly at open mics. In 2007, Jepsen was convinced to audition for a singing competition show by her former drama school teacher. Ultimately, she would finish in third place on Canadian Idol, giving her the platform, she needed to gain a manager and ultimately a recording contract. In 2008 she released her debut album Tug of War with debut singles “Sunshine on My Shoulders” and “Bucket” becoming certifiable Gold and peaking on Canadian charts within the top 40. Throughout 2009 she would go on tour throughout Western Canada with fellow artists Mariana Trench and Shiloh.

Call Me Maybe

Jepsen began writing her second album in early 2011, with the debut single “Call Me Maybe” being released in the fall of that year. With the help of fellow Canadian singer, Justin Bieber, the song quickly became a sensation in not only Canada but also the United States. Artists such as Selena Gomez and Ashley Tisdale publicly showed their support for the single, catapulting Jepsen even further to the spotlight. The single topped the charts around the world, making it the song of the summer in 2011. In 2012 Jepsen was nominated and received several awards including the Rising Star Award at the Billboard Music Awards and the Album of the Year at the Juno Awards. She was even nominated for two Grammy’s at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, although she did not walk away a winner. In 2015 Jepsen released her third album entitled Emotion, although it never saw the same success that came from her second album.

2019 Tour

In early 2018 Jepsen was recognized as the opening act for Katy Perry’s worldwide tour. While touring with Perry, she released the debut single for her fourth studio album Dedicated. In February of 2019 Jepsen released “Now That I Found You” and “No Drug Like Me”, the full-length album soon followed with a complete release in May. Along with her first album in nearly four years, Jepsen also announced that she would tour throughout the United States. The tour kicked off in June at the House of Blues in Anaheim and wrapped up in August at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Along the way the tour made stops in New York, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dallas, and Phoenix.
