Sports fans enjoy cheering for some of their favorite Georgia teams when visiting Duluth. The city is conveniently located close to Athens, Georgia, home of the University of Georgia Bulldogs. A minor league hockey team, the Gwinnett Gladiators, is based in Duluth. Nearby shopping centers include Gwinnett Place Mall and the Mall of Georgia, one of the state's biggest shopping malls. Stone Mountain Park, in nearby DeKalb County, features walking, nature and bike trails. The laser show at Stone Mountain Park attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The MARTA public transportation system is accessible throughout most of Atlanta, but travelers to Duluth will need transport via taxi or rental car. Duluth is easily accessible via United States Interstate 85, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport (ATL) is approximately 45 minutes away from Duluth by car.
Duluth is sunny most of the year. Each fall, the city hosts its annual Fall Festival, which attracts as many as 30,000 visitors. Visitors may watch a parade, enjoy carnival activities and participate in a 5k road race. The Barefoot in the Park Fine Arts Festival is also held annually in Duluth and includes wine tastings and fine art exhibits. Duluth is approximately 20 miles from Buckhead, Georgia, a section of Atlanta known for its bars and nightclubs.
