"My family and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express during our recent trip to Toronto. First off, the good points. The breakfast that was included with our reservation (through Expedia) was phenomenal. Usually, continental breakfasts are decent at best, but this was more of a buffet / restaurant style with waitstaff. And there was a huge variety of breakfast foods to choose from. Also, there were security measures in place where you had to use your key card to enter the stairwell, pool area / gym and access the lobby bathrooms and choose a floor in the elevator. We didn't have much interaction with the staff, except for the front desk, and they were very helpful. The downside - lots of construction in and outside of the building. Of course I understand that upgrades need to take place but 1) we never saw anyone working on these projects 2) they looked more like "abandoned jobs" and 3) they were very unappealing and in some cases a pain the butt. Also, our room had to be the absolute smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in. It was almost claustrophobia inducing. Honestly, there was hardly any space to navigate the room. Even our eight-year-old, who is very tiny, had to love the desk chair out of the way to get on the other side of the bed. There was only a few feet from the end of the bed to the opposite wall. There were no hooks in the bathroom to hang towels, no vent and very little counter space. For that reason alone, I would not choose to stay at this hotel again."
