As the capital of West Virginia, Charleston is full of history and culture. Whether you are in the city for business or pleasure, you will want to visit the Capitol Building, featuring the highest dome for any state capital in the United States. Wander around the grounds and view memorial statues of figures such as Abraham Lincoln. Check out the Governor's Mansion next door, which was built in 1924 in a Georgian colonial style. In the same neighborhood, you can take in the Cultural Center that includes the State Museum, and a theater for live performances. Head over to the East End Historical District and take a quiet stroll through the area.
Most people get around Charleston by car. There are rental agencies available at Yeager International Airport (CRW), located northeast of the city. You’ll find many hotels around the city center; near the Historic District. The neighborhoods around city center also have restaurants to peruse, and the Charleston Town Center Mall is located nearby for some retail therapy.
Charleston was the home of Daniel Boone and a frontier settlement. It has a temperate climate and experiences all four seasons. The coldest months are January and February, and although you may see some ice or snow, rain is more common. Temperatures peak around the low to mid-80s in July and August.
