Portland is a great travel destination for those who want to explore an urban playground with a scenic backdrop. Located in Oregon, the City of Roses is flanked by natural beauty. With Mount Hood to the east, and Willamette River flowing through the heart of the city, there are numerous outdoor activities to partake in.
You can pick up a rental car upon landing at Portland International Airport (PDX). Most of Portland's destinations can be visited by driving on Interstates 205 and 84. From the airport, I-205 will bring you towards the center of the city. From there, you can visit one of the many museums in the area. The Museum of Contemporary Craft, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and the Portland Art Museum are all within walking distance of each other.
For a more urban experience, you can take a drive to downtown. This trendy area contains many hip coffee shops, restaurants like Andina, and urban parks. For a more natural experience, you can head towards Mount Hood to visit The Grotto Gardens and Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden.
A flight from San Diego International Airport (SAN) to Portland will take less than three hours. Navigating the city by car is fairly easy, as the city follows a grid pattern. However, it should be noted that Portland streets are designed to accommodate bicyclists as well. Additionally, Portland has strict parking meter regulations.
