When you’re ready to start your vacation, climb on the 205 to get to Portland International Airport (PDX). The flight to Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) typically lasts just under six hours. Take a taxi from FLL to city center, of you need a vehicle of your own during your trip, pick up a rental car from one of the many rental car companies at FLL.
Head to Fort Lauderdale Beach to catch some rays, or, if you're a fan of swimming, splash around at the International Swimming Hall of Fame Museum and Aquatic Complex. At this stop, you can check out displays of crowning achievements in the sport and work on your butterfly stroke.
Before you leave, head to Stranahan House. This oldest residence in Fort Lauderdale dates back to the early 1900s and is now a museum dedicated to 1900's Floridian life.
For a waterfront hotel and an upscale feel, stay in The Isles. If you seek an older neighborhood with a slower way of life, select a hotel in Colee Hammock. Fort Lauderdale is warm 12-months a year. Consider visiting in the winter as a tropical escape from the seasonal chill.
