Take 417 to Fly from Orlando International (MCO). When you get there, park in one of the onsite lots. If you're willing to spend a bit more, take advantage of the auto-detailing program and come home to a nice clean car. The flight will be exceptionally easy, as flight duration is under an hour. Pick up a rental car from one of the many agencies operating out of the airport and take Route 1 to Fort Lauderdale proper.
For a relaxing day on the beach, visit Fort Lauderdale Beach. This beach is as pristine as those in other Florida tourist hot spots but it isn't as crowded with tourists, offering you more opportunity to relax and recharge. After dinner, take a stroll down Las Olas Boulevard. This stretch features a wide array of shops to visit. Take a break from the sun with a stop at the Museum of Discovery and Science. Along with other engaging hands-on opportunities, this museum houses an array of Florida Ecoscapes featuring live animals.
For an upscale neighborhood with a ritzy feel, select accommodations in The Isles. If you prefer a neighborhood with an older feel, seek a hotel in Colee Hammock. Like most of Florida, Fort Lauderdale is warm 12 months a year. It can get quite hot June through September, so if you prefer a more temperate climate, visit outside of this time.
