Tampa International Airport (TPA) is situated on the east shore of the Tampa Bay, only about five miles west from downtown Tampa. From the west, the airport is accessible via Interstate 275 N, while from the north you can take Interstate 75 S.
Flights to Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) usually last for about 40 minutes. The downtown area of Fort Lauderdale is about three miles from the destination airport and easily accessible using the Broward County Transit buses found at the Rental Car Center of the airport.
For a great tour of the Fort Lauderdale area, making use of the Amphibious Duck Tour or Fort Lauderdale Water Bus is highly recommended, as you get to see the city by water and land. The Galleria Mall is great for shopping and dining as well as the Las Olas Boulevard area.
For some art and culture check out the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens, or the NSU Art Museum. Fort Lauderdale beach is also a major attraction and well worth visiting.
Beach clothes are essential for a trip to Fort Lauderdale, but pack something a little warmer for the evenings as well. Casual footwear is also highly recommended, as heavy shoes will become uncomfortable due to the heat. Cheaper hotels are available near the airport, while the hotels near the beach tend to be more expensive.
