Portland International (PDX) is located 12 miles northeast of downtown Portland. Public transportation is available via bus or rail depending on your point of origin. Flight times are usually two hours to Palm Springs Municipal (PSP), which is two miles from Palm Springs via SR-111. Numerous shuttles and buses serve the area. Rail travel is also available.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is the world's largest rotating tramcar. The ride lasts for 10 minutes and after you've traveled up 8,516 feet from Coachella Valley to San Jacinto Peak, you can dine at Peaks Restaurant and enjoy the view.
To experience the area's nature, the nearby Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert features hundreds of species of animals and plants from the deserts of America and Africa. If you want to enjoy the sun and sand, Newport Beach is about a 90-minute drive via CA-91 W.
