If you're ready to trade the arid climate of the Sonoran Desert, for the lush mist of the Cascades, head to Portland, Oregon. After departing Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), you’ll arrive alongside the Columbia River at Portland International Airport (PDX).
Less than one mile from the airport are plenty of things to do; visitors will find two golf courses, a handful of hotels, the state of Washington, and a stunning view of the gleaming glaciers on Mt. Hood. You can look up directions to any destination using the airport’s free Wi-Fi.
Portland gives its visitors access to the waterfall wonders of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, and the 4-wheel-drive roads of the Silver Star Scenic Area. Portland proper, renowned as one of the most environmentally-friendly cities in the world, boasts microbrewery competitions, countless rose gardens, as well as off-Broadway venues.
A non-stop flight between PHX and Portland is approximately two and a half hours. PDX boasts some of the best shopping prices in the nation. Oregon has no sales tax, and all airport shops are required to charge the same as off-airport locations. Car rental facilities at PDX are split between the centrally located NE Airport Way and the NE Airport Frontage Road to the east.
