About The Lion King
The Lion King on Broadway is a musical performance based on the 1994 animated Disney classic. The show premiered in Minneapolis in 1997, three years after the film was released. With almost instant success the show quickly found its home on Broadway. For the past two decades the show has traveled around the world performing in world class theatres, even for the British royal family! With the demand for cheap tickets being so high, tickets sell out extremely fast. Get your cheap The Lion King tickets today!
From Movie to Musical
Translating The Lion King from a movie into a musical performance was not an easy task. Production had to create extremely intricate and dynamic puppets to be worn by some of the characters, and those roles that did not require a puppet still had to wear intricate animal costumes. With many of the puppets and costume parts being large, the performers must rely on physical strength throughout the show. There are 11 lead, supporting, and featured characters including Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, Nala and Scar. To differentiate from the film, the production decided to change the gender of Rafiki to include another leading woman in the production.
Award-winning Music
One of the main reasons people buy The Lion King tickets is to hear the award-winning music. With the music from the film being created by Elton John and Tim Rice, many of the songs translate over into the stage production. In addition to the original songs, John and Rice created several new songs to be added to the repertoire. The new songs help add depth to the plot and include "Shadowland," "Chow Down," "The Lioness Hunt," "The Madness of King Scar," and more. Some of the most famous songs are “Circle of Life”, “Hakuna Matata”, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”, and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. “Circle of Life”, “Hakuna Matata”, and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” were all nominated for Best Original Song in the 1994 Academy Awards.
Recognized Success
The original The Lion King Broadway show has earned dozens of awards and nominations, including multiple Drama Desk Awards, a Theatre World Award and several Tony Awards in its opening year. Consistent performances on Broadway and on tour have helped The Lion King in New York become one of the highest-grossing musicals. In 2014 The Lion King topped out The Phantom of the Opera as the top-earning title in box office history for both the film and musical adaptations. The popular sales of The Lion King have paved the way for other Disney-themed musicals, including Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins. If you are looking for cheap Lion King tickets?
