"I rarely leave feedback, but this hostel exceeded my expectations. I stayed in the same HI hostel in Chicago and it was an absolute nightmare of cleanliness and comfort so I had to leave. However HI hostel in New York was great, very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are wide with 4 separate closed cabins, not just on shower room per floor; and were exceptionally clean. If you don’t want your room to be smelly, just stay in women’s shared rooms or mixed that doesn’t exceed 6 people.
On the first floor of the lounge there was a little cafe with sandwiches, coffee, water and other drinks for purchase; as well as lounge rooms with different things to do (good for company). I was exploring the city, so wasn’t spending time in the hostel itself. The only thing that felt weird is that they charge 5$ for luggage storage if you need it before checkin or after check out time, but don’t even handle the luggage out by themselves, just let you in the room and you carry it out by yourself. Stuff wasn’t as friendly as in other comments, but I didn’t care much. The hostel is great to stay to save up some money as everything in the city is extremely expensive, and any other regular hotel would cost 200-300 per day. Bring with you slippers, lock, and toilettes (however you can also buy those in stores nearby!)"
