New York La Guardia (LGA) sits just four miles from downtown New York, right off of the Grand Central Parkway. The M60 bus makes regular trips from the city's boroughs to the airport. Typical flight times are about three-and-a-half hours to Austin Bergstrom International (AUS). Shuttles and private cars are available to take you the nine miles from the airport to downtown Austin via TX-71.
Austin is famous for its unique culture. Many of its residents have become so committed to keeping Austin weird that it has become their mantra. Some of the quirkiest spots to visit include Hyde Park Theater on W 43rd Street, which hosts shows ranging from musical acts to comedy troupes. Auditorium Shores on Lady Bird Lake is a primary site for the South by Southwest Festival, and is always full of opportunities to experience the oddities of Austin; street musicians are the norm among other things. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, Hippie Hollow Park on Lake Travis is the only clothing-optional park in Texas.
Summers in Austin are hot, with average high temperatures for July and August approaching 100 degrees. Direct sunlight is all but guaranteed, so be sure to prepare for the sun. Winter months are mild with temperatures in the mid-50s, and the nights drop down to the 40s.
