The approximately four-hour flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Chicago's O'Hare Airport (ORD) is quite a trip. But once you land, O'Hare International is a very hospitable destination for the weary traveler. Voted "Best Airport in North America" in 2000 by Business Traveler magazine, O'Hare is surrounded by some of the best restaurants and shopping around. You have several options when looking to travel into the city.
Taxis are available, but hailing a cab may require patience, given the enormous volume of traffic around O'Hare. A better bet is the Go Airport Express Shuttle located on the arrival level, or the L train, short for "elevated train", Chicago's public railway. A mere $10 gets you a day pass to the train's more than 140 stations, conveniently situated in the most visitor-friendly destinations around the city.
If public transportation isn't your speed, O'Hare hosts 12 car rental companies, all of which offer free shuttle service. All shuttles pick up at the arrival curb just outside of baggage claim. Renting a car can get you right to your chosen destination, whether shopping in Millennial Park, hiking in Glenview district, or grabbing some famous deep-dish pizza. The choices are endless.
