For easy access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Int (ATL), take the MARTA system. Flight duration is typically just over four-and-a-half hours. For a public transit option, take the Yolobus from Sacramento International (SMF) to the city center. For easier transit during your vacation as a whole, pick up a rental car from one of the many agencies operating out of the airport, and drive yourself into the city.
Spend some time strolling through Old Sacramento. This area on the Sacramento River is a throwback to the Sacramento of days gone by. It houses five museums and an assortment of restaurants, so plan a full day. If you have kids with you, visit Fairytale Town. At this site, children can imagine themselves as princes and princesses, and can act out their favorite fairy tales in fanciful sets. End your visit with a tour of the Sacramento Zoo; it’s relatively small compared to others around the country so it is easily toured, even for the most distractible youngsters.
If you'd like accommodations nestled in an area with an uncommon, historic feel, select a hotel in Old Sacramento. For a hotel in a bustling area with much to walk to, select a space in Midtown. While the weather in Sacramento does change throughout the year, it is relatively mild at all times. The area experiences its lowest temperatures December through February, and its warmest June through August.
