About Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz compete in the NBA’s Western Conference Northwest Division, and are based in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Vivint Smart Home Arena. The franchise began play in 1974 as the New Orleans Jazz as a tribute to New Orleans’ history of Jazz music, but moved to Salt Lake City in 1979. The Jazz had a very rough beginning as a franchise, having not qualified for a single playoff appearance until 1984. However, the team immediately took a turn for the better, and did not miss the playoffs again until 2004. The late 1980s were defined by the duo comprised of point guard John Stockton and forward Karl Malone. Karl Malone went on to score more points in his career than any player in the history of the league, while John Stockton currently holds two of the most unbeatable records in the NBA for most assists and most steals. Despite the duo’s dominance, bad luck kept them from an NBA championship despite their extremely successful careers. The duo also helped fuel the team’s rivalry with the Houston Rockets which began in the 1990s, where the Rockets’ duo of Hakeem Olajuwan and Clyde Drexler met in the playoffs against Stockton and Malone. Since then, the two teams have faced each other multiple times in the NBA playoffs, with the most recent happening during the 2017-2018 season. Jazz-Rockets games sell out fast, so be sure to get yours now! Currently, you can see powerhouse players like Donovan Mitchell, Ricky Rubio, and Rudy Gobert run the court. A Utah Jazz game is an event that you do not want to miss, so make sure you have the best seats in the arena before they sell out and you are forced to watch from the nosebleeds- or worse: at home!
