About Miami Heat

The Miami Heat are part of the National Basketball Association’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division, and are based at the American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami, Florida. The team was formed in 1988 as a part of the NBA expansion, and since their founding, have won three championships in 2006, 2012, and 2013, as well as five conference titles and thirteen division titles. NBA superstar Lebron James played a critical role in the team’s success. During the 2012-2013 season, he helped the team accomplish a history 27 game consecutive winning streak. However, the Heat became the center of attention after Lebron James returned to his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014 to try and bring them their first NBA title. Other stars who have played for the team include guard Dwayne Wade and (enormous) center Shaquille O’Neil. As of the 2017-2018 season, the Miami Heat possess the second best win-loss record in the Eastern Conference, behind only the Boston Celtics. Miami Heat vs. Celtics

In 2010, both teams went to the playoffs with the Celtics beating the Heat four games to one. However, in 2011 there was a power shift when The Heat beat the former Eastern Conference Champions in five games. With Players like LeBron James, Paul Pierce, and Dwayne Wade involved, the intensity remained. Both teams have proven their talents on more than one occasion but stay humbled by their losses.

Miami Heat vs. Orlando Magic

With both teams located in Florida, this rivalry is known as the “Sunshine State” rivalry. Orlando Magic was the first team to reach the Finals in the 1990s, but Miami wasn’t far behind reaching the status in 1996. 1997 was a year for intensity as they played in the Playoffs, but ultimately Miami pulled through. Two days after the home arena for Miami Heat opened in 2000, they defeated Orlando. It’s rare these two teams are dominating at the same time, but there is an undeniable tension when they meet head on.

American Airlines Arena

The American Airlines Arena opened in December 1999 and is located in Downtown Miami. A giant aircraft is painted on the arena’s roof as a sponsorship agreement and can be seen when airplanes take off and land. With this design, the luxury skyboxes are referred to as “flagship lounges” which was used as premium-class lounges at various airports. This arena is also known for its scoreboard which changes colors depending on the atmosphere. Grab your tickets to see the Miami Heat and to be in this incredible arena!
