Big 12 Staple

No matter what the sport is the Jayhawks dominate. Men’s basketball capturing the most attention with the amount of success the program has received in its history. From the start the program was destined to succeed with their very first coach being the inventor of the game itself, James Naismith. Winning three National Championship games since its beginning, the program has produced some of the greatest basketball players to ever grace the game. Including Wilt Chamberlain as well as Clyde Lovellette, who both played for the National Basketball Association. Other notable teams within Jayhawks athletics include men’s cross country, indoor track and field, as well as outdoor track and field. Rivals

The major rival of the Jayhawks are the Kansas State Wildcats. The two face-off every year in the Sunflower Showdown, which comprises of both football and basketball games. Some less heated rivalries include with the Missouri Tigers as well as the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Both are the result of the two teams meeting in the post season, as they are in different conferences so regular season face offs are rare.
