Formation and Early Career

Blink 182 got their start in 1992 in a suburb just outside of San Diego called Poway. Lead guitarist Tom DeLonge had performed at his high school’s Battle of the Bands where he was later introduced to the future drummer of the band Scott Raynor. Along with Mark Hoppus, the trio began practicing in the bedroom of Raynor. Starting off they were mainly writing music together and attending punk events throughout their area as learning experiences. In the early years DeLonge was calling around local venues trying to convince them to host the band on the weekends, so they would be able to get experience to perform. Eventually they were performing nearly every weekend at Elks Lodges and YMCA centers. In 1995 the band released their debut album entitled Cheshire Cat, with the leading single being “M+M’s”. Although the album as a whole did not bring the band the mainstream success that they were hoping for, it did funnel in some local attention that they were able to build upon with their follow-up releases.

Mainstream Success

After exploding onto the music scene with their third album, Enema of the State, Blink 182 has continued to surprise and delight their fans. The band has always pushed the boundaries of pop-punk sound, adding in elements of arena rock, skate punk, and even orchestra, all while focusing on universal themes. Blink 182's lyrics grapple with relationships, growing up, divorce, and depression. Topics that have resonated with hundreds of thousands of fans all over the world. Blink 182 songs have smashed charts again and again with hit singles like "All the Small Things," "I Miss You," and "What's My Age Again?"
