Lanai, also fondly known as the Pineapple Island by locals, is the tiniest publicly available island among the string of surrounding Hawaiian Islands. The two best hotels in Lanai are run by Four Seasons, one being a lodge located at Koele, and another a resort at Manele Bay. The other Lanai hotel available is aptly named Lanai Hotel, and is more comfortable to the pocket for vacationers or families with a smaller spending budget.
The avenues for shopping at Lanai include the array of art at the Lanai Art Center and Mike Carroll Gallery, fashion at The Local Gentry, and the department store at Richard's Market.
Activities of Interest around this island include snorkeling, deep sea fishing, ferry expeditions to Maui, and horseback riding.
Restaurants are found scattered around the island. Try American cuisine at the Main Dining Room, or Asian cuisine at The Challenge at Manele Clubhouse, or Lanai City Grille's regional American food spread.
Golf enthusiasts will love to take part in Jack Nicklaus's target style golf course, which is found at The Challenge at Manele. The golf circuit will prove to be an adventurous treat for professional and budding amateur golfers alike. Other golf courses available in Lanai include the Cavendish Golf Course and The Experience at Koele.
This island has no traffic lights, and the public transportation is handled exclusively by a hotel's contractor! A one-time fee is levied for travels on buses around the island. Bicycle and off-road vehicles are also available for rent.
