Hot Springs was designated as a federal reservation in 1832 by President Andrew Jackson. In 1921, Hot Springs Reservation was renamed to Hot Springs National Park. The city gets its name from the local thermal springs, which pump water at more than 140 degrees. It is estimated that the springs produce more than 1 million gallons of water for the area each day.
