While most civilians might name the Dallas Cowboys as the notorious sports team from Texas, the state has its own rabid basketball fans. Most notably are the San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets. The latter team specifically has been located in its hometown for all but four years of its existence. Although many of those years failed to see the team make it to the NBA playoffs, fans still clamber for Houston Rockets tickets, hoping to relieve the consecutive season championships of 1994 and 1995.
While other teams may have received more notoriety, many of the Rockets' star players have received commendations through the years. Rookie Chandler Parsons received the NBA Rookie Second Team award at the end of the 2011 season, while 2008's season offered several awards for the players, including the NBA All-Defensive Second Team and All-NBA Third Team.
While Houston Rockets season tickets holders will get a chance to see Parsons as the starting small forward, fans can also look forward to Kevin McHale as the head coach for the basketball team. McHale was previously a hall-of-fame player for Boston Celtics, and he has been coach of the Houston Rockets since June 2011. While McHale failed to bring the team to the playoffs during his first year, they did finish the season with a record number of wins with him at the helm.
In March of 2012, the Houston Rockets also brought center and power forward Marcus Camby onboard, just in the nick of time. The player is one of the very last draft picks by the Rockets. He has yet to spend a full season with Houston's NBA team, however.
For fans of the team and not individual players, Clutch the mascot is a well-known face. Clutch is a gray bear who wears a Houston Rockets jersey, and even has has received recognition. In 2006, he joined the Mascot Hall of Fame. This was just one year after Clutch became one of USA Today's top five most recognizable mascots and the NBA's Mascot of the Year. Clutch has amassed a famous reputation in just a short period of time. It wasn't until 1995 that the Rockets introduced the team's mascot.
Clutch became part of Internet culture in 2008, after a fan proposed to his girlfriend during the Houston Rockets halftime. People who purchased cheap Houston Rockets tickets were surprised to see the man's rejection. However, the basketball team's mascot stepped up to the plate, consoling the man and walking him off the court. On the way, Clutch commandeered a beer from another fan, and images and videos of this soon spread around the Internet.
Viewers tune in from home to watch the Houston Rockets because they like the adorable bear mascot, have followed Coach McHale's career or have simply lived in Houston for the entirety of their live. Others enjoy sitting court-side, thanks to their Houston Rockets season tickets. Cheap tickets and HD television both provide ways for every fan to show his support uniquely.
