For a city with a completely different climate and culture than what is offered in Phoenix, Indianapolis is a great breath of fresh air. Surrounded by amazing places for fishing, camping and other recreation activities, Indianapolis offers a cultural city alongside an outdoorsy escape, but is also sees many business travelers. The airport is 16 minutes away from downtown Indianapolis, and there are many shuttle services and taxicabs available, to get you where you want to go.
Some places to visit would be the Canal Walk, the Monument Circle and the Madame Walker Theater. For an alternative or underground culture, the Broad Ripple Village is an excellent place to listen to live music or browse through art by local artists.
Just a twenty-minute walk from downtown Indianapolis is the White River State Park. Aside from traditional recreational activities, this park also contains museums like the Indiana State Museum, art galleries and occasional live concerts. For a spooky bit of history, visit the Murat Theatre at Old National Centre, just a twenty-minute drive from the airport.
Flying from PHX to IND will take about three hours, so bring some in-flight entertainment along. If you plan to see the most of what Indianapolis has to offer, rent a car from one of the rental companies conveniently located at the airport.
