When you're flying into Atlanta from Dallas, your first stop will be at Hartsfield International Airport (ATL), located just 7 miles from downtown. It's also just minutes from the Six Flags Over Georgia Amusement Park and the Atlanta Braves Stadium. The big draws downtown are the Georgia Aquarium and the High Museum of Art, which both offer very different experiences. Kids may prefer meeting the animals at Grant Park Zoo, while parents may opt for Atlanta's outstanding Botanical Gardens. The city's busy nightlife includes the bars and clubs of Underground Atlanta.
I-75 runs north-south right through the heart of the city. If you exit on Peachtree Street, you can stop at the legendary Varsity for a burger, before heading to a tour of the CNN Tower. I-285 circles the perimeter and provides easy access to major shopping destinations, the upscale Buckhead area, and Stone Mountain Park. Ponce de Leon Avenue takes you from downtown toward the Decatur area, a relaxing place to grab lunch or dinner. You can also stop by Fernbank Museum of Natural History.
The flight from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Hartsfield International Airport (ATL) lasts approximately an hour and 50 minutes. Once on the ground, you'll trek to the Plane Train, which transports you to the main terminal. After gathering your luggage, you can go beyond baggage claim to the west exit. The SkyTrain can take passengers to the car rental center.
