When you arrive in Guatemala City from New York, you'll be right next to the Avenida Hincapie, a major roadway that runs through the heart of the city and connects everything together. Make sure to visit a car rental service around the area, which will allow you to travel to your own schedule. You'll want to rent a vehicle to get around easily and visit all the sights the city has to offer, like the Zona Viva, the National Palace and the Torre del Reformador.
If you have a lot of time to pass, head over to La Aurora Zoo with the kids. It's built in the middle of an area known as the Parque Reforma, which is home to a number of different museums, parks and even a hippodrome. It's also in the center of a beautiful garden, allowing you to breathe in some fresh air and enjoy Guatemala's tropical climate.
Depending on the airline, flights from John F. Kenny International Airport (JFK) to La Aurora International Airport (GUA) can take as much as ten hours to complete. Whether Guatemala City is your final destination, or you have a layover at the third biggest airport in Central America, schedule some time to wander around and explore the Museo Popol Vuh or the Museo Miraflores.
