Flying into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for business, vacation or sightseeing, will take you to the edge of the Pacific Coast, about 15 miles from downtown. Get ready to explore, as Los Angeles is a huge metropolis with many outlying areas. To fully enjoy the City of Angels, a rental car is a must.
You can hit the Pacific Coast Highway and drive alongside the ocean, passing through the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve and ending up in Santa Monica where you can visit the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium. If you want to get right into the city, take the 405, which meets up with the 10 and ends up in the heart of LA.
In the heart of downtown Los Angeles you'll find Chinatown, the road to Hollywood and Dodgers Stadium where the Los Angeles Dodgers play. Heading north a bit via I-5 will take you to the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Not far from there is the Burbank area, which includes Walt Disney Studios and Universal City. If you're in LA for Disneyland, you'll need to drive out to Anaheim, an hour or so to the southeast.
The in-air flight time from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to Los Angeles is just under three hours. A shuttle bus and both above-ground and underground walkways serve the nine passenger terminals in LAX.
