A Strong Start Straight off the Bench
After Chivas USA disbanded in 2014, there was space in Los Angeles for a new pro soccer team. Within just a few days, MLS had approved the formation of the Los Angeles Football Club. The team debuted in 2018, scoring a victory against the Seattle Sounders FC in their very first game. However, in the LAFC's first meeting against their soon-to-be cross-city rival, the LA Galaxy, the upstart team soared high and then crashed, going from a 3-0 lead to losing 4-3. Still, the Los Angeles Football Club's first season was a strong one. The club edged its way into the No. 3 spot in the West and made it to the playoffs, though they were soon eliminated by Real Salt Lake.
