From Reject to Superstar

Growing up, David Byrne was already a multi-instrument musician – though he was famously turned away from his middle school choir. Still, he was undeterred, and by high school he was playing in bands. In 1975 he founded Talking Heads with Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth. The band became a roaring success with singles like "Psycho Killer" and "Burning Down the House." Byrne released his first solo album, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, in 1981, but it wasn't until Talking Heads broke up that he really began focusing on his solo career. Each of his albums has a different flavor, from Latin music to brass orchestra. He started working in theater and film, contributing to many movie soundtracks. In 2004 Byrne produced Grown Backwards – the last solo album he would release for fourteen years. In the meantime, he collaborated on records with artists like Norman Cook and St. Vincent.

American Utopia Tour

David Byrne supported his most recent album American Utopia with a worldwide tour that featured himself along with twelve other musicians who focused solely on their singing and playing their instruments. The stripped-down tour attracted thousands of eager fans wanting to hear the legend in all his glory to venues around the world. The tour had an extended run at the Hudson Theatre in New York City, as well as a shorter leg at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston.
