About Andrea Bocelli
Blindness has not stopped Bocelli's rise to fame. From the time he was born, Andrea suffered vision problems due to congenital glaucoma. However, he lost his vision at the age of 12 due to a brain hemorrhage after he was accidentally hit in the eye by the ball during a soccer game.
Always passionate about music, he began piano lessons at age six. Not stopping there, he went on to learn to play the drums, guitar, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, and flute. He felt, however, that he was destined to become a tenor.
Bocelli's professional career began in 1992. Bocelli recorded a demo tape with Italian rock star Zucchero of Zucchero's duet "Miserere" for Lucianao Pavarotti to consider. After that, Bocelli toured Europe with Zucherro in 1993 to perform the duet and a solo set during which he sang "Nessun dorma" from Puccini's Turandot. These were the first Andrea Bocelli tour dates, but now you can check out the latest Bocelli concert dates and purchase tickets for upcoming shows.
Bocelli has sold over 80 million records worldwide. He and duet partner Celine Dion received an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe in the Best Original Song category for their recording of "The Prayer" from the animated movie "Quest for Camelot". With worldwide sales of over 12 million copies, Bocelli's 1997 duet of "Time to Say Goodbye," with soprano Sarah Brightman, became one of the top-selling singles of all time. In 2006, Bocelli received Italy's highest-ranking honor when he was appointed a Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. In 2010, his work in live theater earned him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
