About Alessia Cara

She's relatively new to the music industry, but pop R&B singer songwriter Alessia Cara has already taken it over with her fresh perspective and sound. Born on July 11, 1996 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, as Alessia Caracciolo, she shortened her last name to Cara to make it easier on her fans to pronounce her last name. Her music career started where most young artists get famous these days - producing covers of hits on YouTube. The first cover she ever posted was from when she was 13 years old, but she also dabbled in theater and poetry writing before she started playing the guitar at age ten. She was discovered by Def Jam record label three years later and instantly started working with their songwriters to produce her first big hit, "Here." Cara decided she wanted to announce her debut album via the social media app Instagram because it's her favorite app and believes being visual is important to her sound.

Climbing the Charts

"Here" is Cara's relatable anthem to wallflowers everywhere that immediately had people asking, "Who is this girl?" Her unique message had laid back fans scouring the Web for more of her music and cheap tickets to the nearest concert. If you're a fan you know her entire album is a breath of fresh air in an industry that is packed with party jam after party jam. She's topping Billboard charts and taking hearts by storm with her unapologetic reflection of the party scene. "Here" racked up over 500,000 total streams in it's first week and reached the No. 1 spot on the Mainstream Top 40 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs lists. Cara is a huge fan of fellow Canadian artist Drake, as well as songwriters like Frank Ocean, Ed Sheeran and Amy Winehouse. However, she thinks collaborating with Lorde would be "crazy."

Pains of Growing Tour

Her soulful style relates to everyone - there's everything from old-school sounds to alternative pop that makes her incredibly versatile. Nonetheless, she is due for a busy year as she's touring this fall. The Pains of Growing tour began on October 21st at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston. Other stops along this tour included Schnitzer Hall in Portland, The Novo in Los Angeles, and the Revention Center in Houston. Stream her new track “Ready” as you're grabbing your tickets!
