About Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Washington Wizards

This rivalry was all but written off with the departure of LeBron James from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat in 2010. However, now that King James is back in Cleveland, the Cleveland Cavaliers-Washington Wizards rivalry has once again become one of the hottest in the NBA.

The roots of the Cavaliers–Wizards rivalry can be traced back to the 2006–2008 seasons, when the two teams met in three straight first-round playoff series. With each series having its own twists and turns, the Wizards lost out to the Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs consecutively between 2006 and 2008. The Wizards pushed the Cavaliers to six games in 2006 (4-2), only to be swept by them in 2007 (4-0) but forced six games in 2008 again (4-2).

Suffice to say, the Wizards did not have the answer to LeBron James and were unable to shake the LeBron blues hence failing to make the playoffs from 2008 to 2013. The Wizards have however, made the playoffs thrice since 2013 and the upcoming Cavaliers–Wizards games are expected to be as interesting as their earlier face offs.

Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards Memorable Games/Moments

Hail to the King (LeBron) James– It was April 22, 2006, and 21-year old LeBron James was playing his very first playoff game - Game 1 of the 2006 NBA first round playoff series. The venue was Gund Arena, then home of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The night belonged to James. The Cavaliers won over the Wizards 97-86, but not before this young star scored a triple-double with 32 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

When the Wizards (almost) had the Cavs –On February 7, 2017, at the Verizon Center, the Wizards stunned the defending champions Cavs, or at least they thought they did. The Wizards took the game to the wire and beyond before falling to the Cavs 135-140. It was LeBron James once again who took center stage with his game-tying three-pointer, which took the game into OT.
