"Ardoe House is an affordable, average hotel in a grand former home. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. The breakfast buffet has a wide selection with the cooked food being particularly flavoursome.
The drawing room is a nice area to settle down in, despite the peculiar elevator music. The bar is well stocked with knowledgeable, if a little indifferent, bartenders on hand to create cocktails.
The pool and fitness area are in a separate building and are in fact the community’s local leisure point, so it lacks the quietude you might expect from a hotel-only setup.
In all, the property is rather tired. It’s got wear and gloominess in places. The staff are doing their best to keep the wheels turning, but they all look broken, apart from those on reception who are energetic and very helpful. It’s essentially a 3-star that has pipped into the 4-star bracket because there’s a pool next door. For the price though, it is a pleasant enough stay, and would serve you well for a night or two."
