An Undisputed Champion

Jon Jones was born on July 19, 1987 in the small town of Rochester, NY. Growing up, Jones was very involved in athletics within school. In high school he played as a defensive lineman for the football team and he also wrestled, helping his team earn the New York State Championship title. After graduating high school Jones attended Morrisville State College, where he dropped out after beginning his career in Mixed Marital Arts. Before signing with the UFC in 2008, Jones had put up a record of 6-0 over a three-month period of non-professional fighting. In August of 2008 Jones was put in as a last-minute fighter for Tomasz Drwal, and he faced off against Andre Gusmao. Dubbed UFC 87, Jones won the fight in a unanimous decision through his use of unorthodox striking and noteworthy takedowns. After a year of winning fights, Jones was given a contract extension with the UFC. In December of 2009 Jones was disqualified from a fight against Matt Hamill due to the use of illegal elbow moves. To this day this remains the only time that Jones has lost a fight in his professional career! While he had been building a name for himself around the UFC community, it was not until his fight against Vladimir Matyushenko that he would be catapulted to the top of the list for professional fighters in the sport. In 2011 Jones won his first UFC Light Heavyweight Championship title, one that he has continued to defend to this day.
