Growing up in Kentucky, Billy Ray Cyrus was immersed in country, blues, and gospel music, instilling a musical passion in him at a young age. After being struck with inspiration at a Neil Diamond concert, Cyrus quit Georgetown University to devote himself to music. It wasn't an easy journey, but in 1990 he landed a deal with PolyGram/Mercury. He released Some Gave All two years later, and the record became an instant hit. Featuring Cyrus's best-known single, "Achy Breaky Heart," the album was certified 9x platinum. He continued to steadily release country albums, but he also branched off into other entertainment. He started acting, appearing in David Lynch's film Mulholland Drive and joining his daughter Miley Cyrus on the Hannah Montana series. He released two albums of Christian music, competed on the popular TV show Dancing With the Stars, and formed a supergroup called Brother Clyde – all while continuing to write popular country songs.
