In 2012, the New York Yankees lost their chance to play in the World Series after losing out to the Detroit Tigers in a best-of-seven playoff games. The Detroit Tigers won the series, 4-0. The first of 4 games was played at the Yankee Stadium in New York. In the game that turned out to be Derek Jeter’s 158th and final playoff game, the Tigers swept the Yankees, with a decisive victory. The second game was also held at the Yankee Stadium. The struggling Yankees lineup suffered a 0-for-26 hitless streak, which was the longest barren streak in any year of postseason games in the history of MLB. They eventually lost this game too. Game 3 was held at the Comerica Park in Detroit and had Justin Verlander strike out eleven batters in 120 pitches conceding only four runs. The game ended in favor of the Tigers. The fourth and the final game also took place at the Comerica Park in Detroit and was the final nail in the Yankees coffin as the Tigers beat them 1-8.
