The Detroit Wayne Metropolitan Airport (DTW) serves Detroit and its surrounding suburbs; an area that is rich in American history and full of charm. When visiting from Fort Lauderdale, you can spend a few days discovering new facts at the local museums, such as The Motown Historical Museum.
When the sun goes down, music lovers can listen to local jazz musicians play, and those who prefer theater can see a show. Because so many of Detroit's greatest attractions are spread throughout the city, renting a car is advisable.
Downtown Detroit is home to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History, the largest institution in the world that focuses on the African-American experience. Also located downtown is the City Theater, which is open six days a week for performances, and serves food and drink before and after most shows.
The Automotive Hall of Fame is located in the nearby suburb of Dearborn. Jazz lovers will want to visit the Exodus Lounge, during one of the lounge's Monday night jazz performances by local musicians.
When traveling by air from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), DFW is approximately three hours away. Toronto is an excellent international destination for onward travel, and can be reached by taking a very short flight, or even driving a few hours from Detroit.
